Public Relations Department.
Functions of the Directorate
The Directorate undertakes the following functions:
Developing the programs necessary to implement the Directorate’s plan and supervising their implementation.
Following up on the Media Spokespersons Network and ensuring the continuity of the Media Agenda.
Planning and managing media events, and building, developing, and sustaining relationships with journalists and media outlets.
Supervising public relations services, supporting and assisting ministries and institutions, and contributing to strengthening their media messages.
Providing a database of government policies.
Through its internal plan, the Directorate seeks to link its operational objectives to measurable, time-bound indicators and clear, actionable ideas.
In implementing one of the Ministry’s functions related to empowering the Media Spokespersons Network across ministries, government entities, and institutions, the Directorate continues to follow up on efforts to strengthen and develop the Network’s work. This includes providing continuous theoretical and practical training for spokespersons and media personnel working in government communication across various areas related to media engagement with the public.
The Directorate also seeks to sustain the practice of holding regular meetings between the Minister of Government Communication and the Media Spokespersons Network. In addition, through the “Nateq” window on the Ministry’s official website, the Directorate communicates with media spokespersons to emphasize the importance of providing timely responses to media inquiries, thereby ensuring the continuous flow of information to the public.
With regard to maintaining the Media Agenda—an internal document that includes the media activities and events of ministries and government institutions—the Directorate communicates with Media Agenda liaison officers in ministries and government institutions to collect daily information on activities and events. It then classifies this information by sector and type. At the end of each week, the document is finalized and submitted by the Minister of Government Communication to the Council of Ministers for review and guidance.
The Directorate also plays an important role in building, developing, and maintaining relationships with journalists and media outlets by activating the Ministry’s communication channels with them in accordance with professional standards. It seeks to sustain cooperation, strengthen the sector’s standing, and emphasize the need to develop its tools amid rapid technological advancement and the financial impact resulting from telecommunications companies’ dominance of the advertising market. The Directorate also establishes a communication network with media representatives to facilitate the organization of press events at the Ministry.
In affirmation of its commitment to partnership with ministries, government institutions, and departments, and to ensure a unified official narrative, the Directorate of Planning, Coordination and Media Spokespersons maintains a database of government policies through coordination with liaison officers at these institutions via the Media Spokespersons Network and the Media Agenda. These efforts aim to ensure the continued availability of information files that can be used as a reference for developing media messages on current issues.
